US and UK could face Afghanistan war crimes investigation
The prosecutor of the International Criminal Court has said she will seek approval to open a formal investigation into allegations of war crimes in Afghanistan, having concluded there was “reasonable basis to believe” such atrocities were committed there, AzVision.az reports citing the Independent.
Fatou Bensouda, the Hague-based prosecutor of the International Criminal Court, has said she believes there is evidence to suggest war crimes and crimes against humanity were committed over a period from July 2002 to the present day.

“In accordance with the Office's policy and practice, the ultimate focus will be upon those most responsible for the most serious crimes allegedly committed in connection with the situation in Afghanistan,” she said in a statement.

“We will always strive to do everything possible to ensure that our engagement in the exercise of our mandate is sensitive to the plight of victims in Afghanistan.”
