Azerbaijan’s new government expected to continue important reforms – World Bank

The main task of the new government of Azerbaijan is to keep the momentum of reforms that began in 2015-2016, as well as increase the economy's resistance to external shocks, the World Bank said.

"Ilham Aliyev, won the presidential elections held in Azerbaijan on April 11. He took office on April 18 and began forming the government. The new government is expected to continue important economic reforms to ensure sustainable and comprehensive development," the source said.

At the same time, the WB emphasizes that the impact of structural reforms on stimulating the development of the private sector and creating new jobs will remain somewhat limited.

In addition, the WB calls on the Azerbaijani authorities to continue reforms to improve the effectiveness of the social protection system for low-income segments of the population.
