Turkish police chief resigns

Turkey's Police Chief Selami Altinok has resigned, Turkish media reported on April 26.

Reportedly, Altinok resigned due to self-nomination for the upcoming parliamentary election.

He headed the Turkish police department from Sept. 10, 2016.

Eleven political parties will participate in the parliamentary and presidential elections to be held in Turkey on June 24.

In the parliamentary election held in Turkey on Nov. 1, 2015, the Justice and Development Party (AKP) garnered 49.41 percent of the votes, the People's Republican Party (CHP) - 25.38 percent, the National Movement Party (MHP) - 11.93 percent, and the Democratic People's Party (HDP) - 10.7 percent.
