Azerbaijani official: OSCE MG co-chairs’ activities should be ‘more specific’

The OSCE Minsk co-chairs must be more concrete and specific in their future activities, Hikmet Hajiyev, Assistant to the President of Azerbaijan, Head of Foreign Policy Affairs Department of the Presidential Administration told AzVision.az.

Azerbaijan considers that the mandate of the Minsk process is based on the relevant OSCE documents, including the decisions of the OSCE Budapest Summit and the UN Security Council resolutions, Hajiyev noted.

“Based on these documents, the activities of all states participating in the Minsk process are of great importance. The issue of holding an expanded-format meeting in presence of all participating states can be discussed,” he said.

The assistant to the Azerbaijani president stressed that Armenia, with its destructive activities and military provocations, continues to disrupt and undermine the negotiation process.

“Firstly, their [Armenians] next act of aggression in Tovuz district is part of the ongoing aggression against Azerbaijan. This shows that the failure to impose appropriate sanctions against Armenia and non-implementation of political diplomatic sanctions incite Yerevan to further military adventures,” Hajiyev said. “From the political and diplomatic point of view, we still see that Armenia keeps resorting to military adventures, trying to strengthen the ceasefire and bring up various technical issues again. We openly say that all this is another Armenia’s hypocrisy.”

He said that Armenia is not intending to hold serious talks to contribute to the conflict resolution. “The main goal is nothing more than the continuation of the status quo based on occupation,” Hajiyev added.

The assistant to the Azerbaijani president urged the entire international community to properly asses Armenia’s actions.

“The fact of occupation and aggression must be eliminated as soon as possible,” Hajiyev said, noting that Armenia’s leadership and heads of the country’s military structures are personally responsible for the occupation of Azerbaijani territories.

Asked about a possible resumption of the negotiation process after Armenia’s latest military provocations, Hajiyev said the OSCE Minsk Group co-chairs should answer this.

He emphasized that the co-chairs must be more concrete and specific in their future activities.

“While Armenia continues its aggression against Azerbaijan and the occupation of our territories, another act of aggression was committed in the direction of Tovuz district. The co-chairs should also assess these points and act in a specific direction in accordance with their mandates. I would like to reiterate that the co-chairs’ activities should be based on the decision of the OSCE Budapest Summit and the relevant UN Security Council resolutions,” Hajiyev added.
