  Paris welcomes Azerbaijan’s humanitarian gesture

France’s Foreign Ministry welcomed the release of 15 Armenian detainees by Azerbaijan in exchange for maps of mines in Azerbaijan’s Aghdam district, AzVision.az reports.

This is an important gesture that will contribute to the easing of tension and the restoration of confidence between the sides in order to establish sustainable peace in the Caucasus, the French ministry said in a statement.

Paris called on the parties to hold a substantial dialogue to ensure the effective and full implementation of the obligations under the agreement concluded on 10 November 2020, and build a lasting political solution.

The Foreign Ministry of Azerbaijan earlier stated that in accordance with the agreement reached, on June 12, 2021, in exchange for providing Azerbaijan with maps of 97,000 anti-tank and anti-personnel mines in the Aghdam district, 15 detained Armenians were handed over to Armenia on the Azerbaijani-Georgian border with the participation of Georgian representatives.
