Tehran calls for lasting peace in South Caucasus

Tehran calls for ensuring peace in the South Caucasus as soon as possible, Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman Saeed Khatibzadeh said as he commented on the recent tensions on the Armenia-Azerbaijan state border, AzVision.az reports.

Tehran calls the parties to be restraint and solve border issues peacefully, noted the spokesman.

Khatibzadeh reiterated Iran’s readiness to offer any assistance needed to achieve lasting peace in the region.

In recent days, Armenian armed forces have been violating the ceasefire with Azerbaijan. On July 23, Armenian troops fired at the Azerbaijani Army’s positions in the direction of Kalbajar district, along the border of the two countries. As a result of a sniper fire opened by Armenia, Azerbaijani serviceman Farman Yagublu was martyred.
