Astana hosts high-level meeting on COP29 preparations

A joint meeting on preparations for the upcoming COP29 was held in Astana, Kazakhstan. The meeting brought together representatives from Kazakhstan's government agencies, international organizations, national companies, and the business community, AzVision.az reports. 

According to Kazakhstan's Ministry of Energy, the event was conducted by representatives of the Ministries of Ecology and Natural Resources, Energy, Foreign Affairs, and the Council for Sustainable Development and ESG under the Atameken National Chamber of Entrepreneurs, with the participation of interested government agencies, national companies, and the business community.

Vice Minister of Energy Ilyas Bakytzhan informed the meeting participants about the work carried out by the Kazakh Energy Ministry in the framework of developing low-carbon energy, reducing methane emissions, and ensuring a fair energy transition. He noted that Kazakhstan prioritizes the development of a low-carbon track, achieving carbon neutrality by 2060, and a gradual energy transition.

"Kazakhstan is a party to global initiatives aimed at reducing anthropogenic greenhouse gas emissions on the environment. Joining the Global Methane Pledge confirms our country's commitment to the course of a consistent energy transition and opens up opportunities for attracting green investments to the country," the statement reads.
