Iran announces 3 days of mourning over Rafsanjani`s death
Iranian administration announced three days of public mourning due to passing of Chairman of the Expediency Council Ayatollah Akbar Hashemi Rafsanjani, IRNA news agency reported.
The Iranian government also announced Jan. 9 as a public day off because of the funeral procession for the late ayatollah.

Rafsanjani died on Jan. 8 at the age of 82 in a Tehran hospital due to a cardiac arrest caused by heart attack.

Rafsanjani, a veteran Iranian cleric, a pillar of the Islamic Revolution and a leading politician, served on different positions in the post-1979 Islamic Revolution era.

Senior Iranian officials including Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei and President Hassan Rouhani extended condolences over Rafsanjani’s death.

Foreign senior officials including Bahraini Emir Hamad bin Issa Al-e Khalifa, Kuwaiti Emir Sheikh Sabah al-Ahmad al-Sabah extended their condolences regarding Rafsanjani`s passing to President Hassan Rouhani.
