Russia not concerned regarding opening of NATO center in Tbilisi
Russia has no reasons for concern regarding the opening of NATO training center in Tbilisi, the Georgian Defense Minister Mindia Janelidze told reporters Feb.19 following the meeting of the government.
He said that the activity of the NATO training center will not pursue aggressive goals.
Earlier, Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov said that Russia is ready to take steps if the attempts to drag Georgia into NATO are not ceased.

It was earlier reported that Georgia and NATO agreed to open a training center of the alliance on the Georgian territory.

“This is just a training center and not a NATO base,” said Janelidze, noting that the work of the training center will not be directed against anyone else. “This is a step aimed at the development and strengthening of the Georgian armed forces.”

Earlier, the NATO Parliamentary Assembly urged all NATO member-states to give Georgia a Membership Action Plan at the Wales summit as a sign of recognizing the country’s success towards integration into NATO and its contribution to the international security.

The Membership Action Plan in the alliance is the NATO program, designed for the consultations, rendering assistance and practical support in accordance with the individual needs of the countries wishing to join the North Atlantic Alliance.
