EU East Programme project director Jean-Francois Moret and Hans Das, head of the Civil Protection Policy, Prevention, Preparedness and Disaster Risk Reduction Unit of the European Commission, said in their speech that the Civil Protection Mechanism is a cooperation framework among EU countries and partnership countries in prevention of natural and man-made disasters, preparedness and responsive measures, noting that that the new law on civil protection which came into force in 2014 would open up extra opportunities for the enhancement of cooperation.
Addressing the meeting, the representatives of the partner countries stressed the need to exchange experience and expertise with the EU in the fields of emergency alert systems, electronic risk maps and prevention of industrial accidents, as well as to cooperate within the framework of the EU Joint Research Centre and CBRN Centres of Excellence Initiative (chemical, biological, radiological and nuclear).
