Heydar Aliyev Foundation, Türkiye’s Zero Waste Foundation sign Memorandum of Understanding

The Heydar Aliyev Foundation has hosted a meeting with representatives of Türkiye’s Zero Waste Foundation, AzVision.az reports. 

During the meeting, Executive Director of the Heydar Aliyev Foundation Anar Alakbarov highlighted the activities of the Foundation led by First Lady of Azerbaijan Mehriban Aliyeva, and the implemented projects.

Describing the projects on environmental protection as one of the priority areas of the Heydar Aliyev Foundation, established on May 10, 2004 and which marks its 20 years of activity this year, Anar Alakbarov shed light on the measures implemented and planned by the Foundation in this realm.

Anar Alakbarov also provided an insight into Azerbaijan’s chairmanship of COP29, a major international event, saying that the country had joined the fight against global climate change by becoming a party to the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change. He also mentioned the declaration of the territories liberated from occupation as "Green Energy" zones by President of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev, and plans to transform the liberated regions into a "Net-Zero Emission" zone by 2050. Anar Alakbarov underscored that the Heydar Aliyev Foundation provides significant support to the efforts carried out in this area across the country with its projects aimed to protect the environment.

Samed Agirbas, Chairman of the Board of Trustees of the Zero Waste Foundation, which was established at the initiative of First Lady of the Republic of Türkiye Emine Erdogan, said that the key goal of the institution is the protection of the environment and human health. The chairman noted that they attach foremost importance to issues such as the promotion of waste water reuse and processing, highlighting the projects implemented in this domain.

The meeting also saw the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding between the Heydar Aliyev Foundation and the Zero Waste Foundation within the COP29, which envisages the cooperation in the area of environmental protection, promotion of cultural exchange and joint projects in the field of cultural heritage protection.
