Officials from Azerbaijan and Italy discuss economic cooperation

The Speaker of Azerbaijan's Milli Majlis, Sahiba Gafarova, discussed prospects for developing economic cooperation with representatives of the Italian Senate.

The meeting took place in Rome during the visit of Azerbaijan's parliamentary delegation to Italy.

The parties emphasized the development of relations between the two countries in the humanitarian sphere, the importance of projects implemented by the Heydar Aliyev Foundation in Italy, and the activities of the Azerbaijani-Italian University.

The parliamentarians also addressed environmental protection issues. It was noted that the Italian Prime Minister's participation in COP29 also shows the importance of this issue for Italy. The Italian side expressed gratitude to Azerbaijan, especially President Ilham Aliyev, for organizing and conducting COP29 at a high level.

The Azerbaijani parliament speaker noted the role of friendship groups in developing relations between the parliaments of both countries and spoke about the importance of increasing mutual visits in this field, especially for conveying accurate information amid the spread of fake news about Azerbaijan in Europe.

The head of the Italy-Azerbaijan friendship group for inter-parliamentary relations, Marco Scuria, also expressed concern about the biased position towards Azerbaijan in PACE.

Further, the Milli Majlis Speaker answered questions about Azerbaijani-Italian relations, Azerbaijan's foreign policy priorities, the current situation in the South Caucasus region, and the normalization process between Azerbaijan and Armenia.
