Group of media representatives from French colonies visit Azerbaijan’s Milli Majlis

Members of the Support Group for the People of Corsica in the Azerbaijani parliament, MPs Javanshir Feyziyev, Tural Ganjaliyev, Shahin Ismayilov, and Azer Karimli, met with media representatives from French-controlled colonies visiting Azerbaijan at the Milli Majlis.

MP Javanshir Feyziyev highlighted that France continues to pursue a colonial policy, violating the rights of national minorities, exploiting colonies, and oppressing local peoples. He emphasized Azerbaijan’s support for these peoples in their fight against colonialism and noted that President Ilham Aliyev has raised the issue of neocolonialism on international platforms.

MP Azer Karimli reminded the delegation that their visit coincided with the commemoration of the Khojaly tragedy. He highlighted the genocide committed by Armenia in Khojaly and the Azerbaijani people's journey to independence. He condemned France’s neocolonial policies as contrary to civilized values and humanism.

MP Tural Ganjaliyev underlined the importance of mutual cooperation in combating stereotypes related to France's neocolonial presence in overseas territories and maintaining its political and economic influence.

The discussion also focused on the activities of the Baku Initiative Group (BIG) in combating French colonialism. The Group’s contributions were praised, particularly in relation to the Non-Aligned Movement and COP29. The MPs affirmed Azerbaijan's unwavering stance against colonial policies and pledged to continue supporting these peoples’ struggles.

Abbas Abbasov, Head of BIG, spoke about the Group's continued efforts in the fight against colonialism and neo-colonialism, drawing attention to its consistent advocacy for decolonization.

Media representatives from New Caledonia, Saint-Martin, Guadeloupe, and French Guiana shared their experiences, noting that the French government has shown indifference to their plight. They expressed gratitude for Azerbaijan's support and welcomed the creation of the International Liberation Front against French colonial policies, hoping it would bring about positive change.

Representatives of the foreign press also discussed the importance of establishing economic, cultural, and humanitarian relations, cooperation in the media field, and information exchange.

The meeting concluded with a Q&A session.
