A commemoration event marking the 33rd anniversary of the Khojaly genocide was held in Münster, Germany. Organized by the European Azerbaijan Center with support from the Alliance of Azerbaijanis in Germany, the event aimed to honor the victims of the Khojaly tragedy, raise international awareness, and call for peace and justice.
The ceremony began with the playing of Azerbaijan’s National Anthem, followed by a minute of silence in memory of the martyrs.
Zaur Aliyev, Chairman of the European Azerbaijan Center and a Board Member of the Alliance of Azerbaijanis in Germany, addressed the gathering, emphasizing that the Khojaly tragedy was not only a crime against Azerbaijan but against all humanity. He highlighted the importance of increasing global awareness of the tragedy, noting the active role of Azerbaijanis living abroad in this effort.
Altay Rustamli, Chairman of the Board of the Alliance of Azerbaijanis in Germany, described the Khojaly tragedy as a deep wound in Azerbaijan’s history. He pointed out that the international community has yet to provide a full legal and political assessment of the atrocity and stressed the Azerbaijani diaspora's ongoing struggle for justice.
Several Azerbaijani community members, including Eldar Guneyli, Elgiz Hagverdiyev, Zaur Guliyev, and Javid Alizadeh, provided information about the Khojaly tragedy in German.
More than 100 attendees, including compatriots and representatives of other nations, received books and brochures detailing the Khojaly genocide.
The event continued with presentations in German, screenings of documentaries about the tragedy, and testimonies from witnesses.
