Hillary Clinton Calls on Americans to
The American people must stop the gun lobby from preventing gun control reforms in the United States, US Democratic presidential candidate Hillary Clinton said.
Following the Oregon killings, President Barack Obama called on the Republican-controlled Congress to change the country`s gun laws, and urged Americans to pay more attention to presidential candidates` position on gun control.

"What is wrong with us? That we can`t stand up to the NRA [National Rifle Association] and the gun lobby and the gun manufacturers they represent," Clinton stated on Friday.

Clinton was speaking at a grassroots in Davie, Florida the day after gunman Chris Harper Mercer opened fire at Umpqua Community College in Roseburg, Oregon, killing nine people and injuring 20 others.

"Every time there’s another massacre, Republicans and the NRA say, `Now is not the time to talk about guns`," Clinton said. "They put the NRA ahead of American families. It is wrong."

The situation is not just tragic, Clinton added. "We don’t just need to pray for people. We need to act. And we need to build a movement," she said.

Clinton suggested the United States needs a movement in order to be able to pass adequate gun control measures.

"We need to make every politician who sides with [the NRA] to look into the eyes of parents, whose children have been murdered and explain why they listen to the gun lobbyists instead," she asserted.

On Friday, US authorities said they found 13 firearms the gunman had at the scene of the shooting and at his home, all of which were purchased legally.
