Cases of HIV infection increased in Armenia
In Armenia 334 HIV cases were registered in 2014, which exceeds the number of HIV cases of the previous years, Vahan Poghosyan, Deputy Minister of Healthcare presented the statistics on the International Day of the Struggle against the AIDS, “One of the main problems in the sphere is late diagnosis of the disease: only 45% of the people with the HIV infection know about their condition.”

The cases of the HIV infection have been registered in Armenia since 1988. During 27 years 2214 HIV cases have been registered in Armenia. Only during 11 months of 2015 261 cases of HIV infection have been registered, “We have not only gained much experience since 1988, but also achieved success in treatment sphere.

Thanks to the treatment for prevention of mother-to-child transmission of HIV, no case of mother-to-child transmission of HIV has been registered since 2007,” noted the Deputy Minister.

Males constitute a major part in the total number of HIV cases- 1528 people, compared with 686 cases among females. 41 cases of HIV infection were registered among children.

From the beginning of the epidemic 495 death cases have been registered among HIV/AIDS patients.

At present the assessment of the situation shows that there are 3800 people with HIV infection in the republic.
