Suspected US airstrike in Syria kills at least 54 people

An airstrike has killed at least 28 people in an Isis-held area of Syria near the border with Iraq, a war monitor has said.

The Syrian Observatory for Human Rights as well as pro-Syrian government news outlets said the US-led coalition carried out the strike near the town of Abu Kamal, east of the Euphrates River, on Friday.

US Central Command did not immediately respond to requests for comment.

US forces along with Western partners are still launching air support in Syria to assist the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF), an alliance of militias including the Kurdish YPG, in crushing the remnants of the militant group.
