European Games in Baku to become big success
With determination to build extraordinary sport facilities and with Azerbaijanis being such a warm, friendly and enthusiastic people, they will make the First European Games a big success, Damir Steiner, executive director of Serbian Olympic Committee told on May 14.
Azerbaijan is a rapidly developing country, so the sport is growing there as well as all the other segments of the society, he said. “I had an opportunity to visit Baku couple of times in the past year and I have noticed a huge progress every single time.”

“I do believe that the European Games are going to become a huge sport event,” said Steiner.

For European sport, this is a great historical moment because all the other continents already have their Games, according to Steiner. “Europe definitely deserves its own multisport competition.”

“Baku 2015 Organizing Committee is composed of very experienced staff who worked in former Olympic Games and I believe they will deliver an extraordinary competition,” he added.

He added that all the new and refurbished facilities to be used for the European Games are impressive.

Baku 2015 is the first-ever European Games, an exciting and innovative multi-sport event for the continent that will take place on June 12-28, 2015.

There will be a total of 20 sports at Baku 2015: 16 Olympic sports and four non-Olympic sports. More than 6,000 athletes from across Europe will be representing their nations over 17 days of competition.

Baku was awarded the games by the European Olympic Committees (EOC) in December 2012.
