France‘s Foreign Ministry rejects request on taking Armenian side in Karabakh conflict

The official Paris must remain neutral on the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict, said French Foreign Minister Jean-Yves Le Drian while addressing the lower house of the French parliament.

In response to French MPs' calls to "take Armenian side" in the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict, the minister said: "France has to remain neutral to exercise the OSCE’s mandates considered for us, as well as for Russia and the United States."

He added that Paris would lose its status as a legal mediator if it supported one of the parties to the conflict. Stating that France has close bilateral relations with Armenia, the minister noted that his country also has long-term cooperation with Azerbaijan.
