A March 2 airstrike in Yemen against Al-Qaeda in the Arabian Peninsula (AQAP) killed a former detainee at the US detention center at Guantanamo Bay in Cuba, the Pentagon announced Monday.
"We can confirm the death of a former Guantanamo Bay detainee, Yasir al Silmi," said Navy Captain Jeff Davis, a Defense Department spokesman.
