The Embassy of the Republic of Azerbaijan in Indonesia, Timor-Leste, Philippine and Singapore told APA that the event was attended by Indonesian Coordinating Minister of Economic Affairs Sofyan Djalil, Indonesian Parliament Deputy Speaker Fahri Hamzah, Deputy speaker of Regional Representative Council Farouk Mohammad, Vice Minister of Foreign Affairs Abdurrahman Mohammad Fachir, representatives of diplomatic missions, some NGOs and mass media outlets operating in Indonesia, businessmen, Azerbaijani students and others.
Ambassador Tamerlan Garayev said that Azerbaijani people are celebrating the anniversary of Azerbaijan Democratic Republic, the first democratic republic in the east in the 1918-1920 and Milli Majlis of which included female MPs. He noted that today’s Azerbaijan that was rebuilt after 71 years is successor of Azerbaijan Democratic Republic. The ambassador stressed that though Azerbaijan Republic faced aggression and occupation in the first years of its independence and consequently it has 1 mln refugees and IDPs and its economy fully devastated, the country managed to develop and today, chose the path of international integration as a leader country in the region in all spheres. Garayev recalled that the Baku will host the European Games, the 2016 Formula 1 Car Ride, 2017 Islamic Solidarity Games as an example of steps taken by Azerbaijan in the direction and its success.
Sofyan Djalil spoke about future plans and projects on further development of bilateral relations and congratulated Azerbaijani people.
After official ceremony, a dinner was arranged in honor of the participants.
The event was enlightened by Indonesian State Television (TVRI), “Liputan” and other media outlets.
Various publications about Azerbaijan, as well as English and Indonesian versions of IRS magazine were distributed among the participants.
