Azerbaijani President: "Gas transportation to Europe will start only when we face no artificial obstacle"
“Implementation of the Southern Gas Corridor has already been started. Azerbaijan once more demonstrated its leadership position in this sphere. Discussions on export of the Caspian gas to Europe were held for a long time. But Azerbaijan took key step signing TANAP project with Turkey”, President Ilham Aliyev said at the opening ceremony of the 22nd international Caspian Oil and Gas Exhibition and Conference.

Head of the state noted that the foundation of the Southern Gas Corridor has already been laid down and the first meeting of the Advisory Board of the Southern Gas Corridor has been held in Baku: “We started TANAP project in March in Turkey. The Southern Gas Corridor is already a reality and being implemented. I’m sure that TANAP will be implemented after three years. Thus, Shahdeniz gas will be exported to Turkey and Georgia”.

President Ilham Aliyev also noted he does not believe any problem will occur in TAP implementation: “The meeting of the Advisory Board of the Southern Gas Corridor showed that all parties perceive the responsibility. No one should try to get extra concessions here. Because everyone will benefit from this project. Greece, Albania and other Balkan states are participants of the Southern Gas Corridor. This is an advantage and several issues can be appeared in certain stages. These issues should be solved by discussing. Gas transportation to Europe will start only when we face no artificial obstacle. This will be a great historical event for us. Azerbaijan will export its gas to Europe and Europe will have new energy source”.
