In a significant development during the Council of Foreign Ministers of the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS) session on October 7, Armenia chose not to endorse two crucial statements concerning regional security and international relations.

Armenian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Ani Badalyan confirmed that Armenia refrained from joining the consensus on the "Principles of Ensuring Security in Eurasia" and the "Inadmissibility of Unilateral Measures in International Relations," Caliber.Az reports via local media.

The CIS Executive Committee had previously announced that the foreign ministers from member states adopted a joint statement on the "Inadmissibility of Unilateral Measures in International Relations," urging nations to abstain from accepting, disseminating, or implementing such measures.

Additionally, a separate declaration outlining the "Principles of Ensuring Security in Eurasia" was also ratified during the session. 

However, the Armenian side has not disclosed the reasons behind its decision to abstain.

Notably, the meeting, held in Moscow, concluded with participants summarising the achievements related to Russia's chairmanship of the organisation in 2024. Several documents were signed concerning international cooperation and plans for joint cultural and sporting events.

This meeting of the CIS Council of Foreign Ministers came just ahead of the CIS Council of Heads of State meeting, scheduled for October 8.
