Azerbaijan elected to member of UN-Habitat Executive Board

Azerbaijan has been elected as a member of the Executive Board of the United Nations Human Settlements Programme (UN-Habitat) for the first time, AzVision.az reports, citing the country's Foreign Ministry.

The decision was made during the latest session of the UN-Habitat Assembly held on May 30 in Nairobi, Kenya.

The Executive Board is the main decision-making body of UN-Habitat between its regular sessions and consists of 36 member countries. Azerbaijan’s membership will span from 2025 to 2029.

The cooperation between Azerbaijan and UN-Habitat, which specializes in sustainable urban development and human settlements, has been growing dynamically in recent years. A notable example is Azerbaijan’s hosting of the 2023 World Habitat Day (WHD23). Additionally, Azerbaijan is set to host the 13th session of the UN World Urban Forum (WUF13) on May 17–22, 2026.
