Iran’s weightlifter Rostami takes gold, sets new world record
Iranian weightlifter has taken gold in men’s 85kg category at the Rio Olympics.
Iranian weightlifter Kianoush Rostami has taken gold in men’s 85kg category at the Rio Olympics, setting a world record.

Rostami had a total weight score of 396 kilograms on Friday (179kg raised first, then 217kg). The previous world record was 395 kilograms and was set by Rostami in May 2016.

China’s Tian Tao took silver in men’s 85kg weightlifting on Friday, having a combined total of 395kg, while Romania’s Gabriel Sincraian took bronze with a 390kg total.

The 2016 Summer Olympic Games are being held in Brazil’s Rio de Janeiro from August 5 until August 21. Brazil is the first South American country to host the competition.
