FM Cavusoglu also said that while Turkey supports the settlement of the Syrian crisis, other countries are indifferent to this problem.
In 2013, the terrorist organization known as the “Islamic State” (IS, formerly ISIL or ISIS) penetrated Syria. IS announced its refusal to take the oath of Al-Qaeda, and declared a “holy war” against all the groups and government forces in Syria.
Strengthening of the IS in Syria allowed it to return to Iraq, deploying military actions against government forces there.
In late June 2014, the IS announced about the creation of an “Islamic caliphate” on the territories under its control in Iraq and Syria. Iraqi authorities appealed to international community requesting help to fight against the IS.
