Iran seeks to decrease oil`s influence in political decisions

"In order to decrease our reliance on oil revenues, we also plan to increase our economic ties with neighboring countries," he said, Iran`s ISNA News Agency reported on Jan. 13.

He made the remarks at a meeting with visiting Iraqi Oil Minister Adil Abd Al-Mahdi.

The official further stressed on the need to expand the two countries` bilateral trades in different fields.

"Destroying the economic infrastructures of Iraq and Syria aims at hindering the Islamic countries` economic growth," Shamkhani added.

Al-Mahdi, for his part, said that the Iraqi nation is willing to increase its relations with Iran.

"The Iraqi government plans to facilitate the process of trades between the two countries," he said.

"Iran and Iraq can play an important role in bouncing back oil prices in global markets," he said.
