Iran arrests terrorists on border with Turkey
Iran`s border guard has arrested several terrorists on the border with Turkey, Brigadier General Qassem Rezaei, Iran`s Border Guards commander said.
The arrested people were members of a terrorist group captured while guards were patrolling near the Bazargan border checkpoint, Rezaei said, Iran`s Fars news agency reported April 13.

The Iranian commander did not disclose any information on the arrested people`s identity or motives, nor to which group they are linked. However he underlined that they are not members of the IS (Islamic State) group. Rezaei further said that the people were handed over to the judiciary.

In recent months, Iranian officials have repeatedly shared information with media about dismantling terrorist groups in border regions in particular in the southeastern borders.

Earlier the Iranian Interior Ministry spokesman Hoseinali Amiri said that "anti-revolutionaries" in the provinces of Kurdistan, Kermanshah, and Sistan-Baluchestan have surrendered to the government forces without providing any further details about the people.

Meanwhile, Iran`s Intelligence Minister Mahmoud Alavi said on February 14 that the ministry had dismantled a terrorist group in the southeastern province of Sistan and Baluchestan.

In recent months, extremist groups have conducted several attacks against local police offices in Iran. The groups claim they`re fighting against the Iranian government for protection of Sunni residents.
