Azerbaijan started restoration of small hydropower plants in Karabakh

Before the Armenian occupation, the Karabakh region provided electricity to about 1 million people, said President of Azerenergy Baba Rzayev in his speech at the 1st Azerbaijani-Turkish Energy Forum adding that the Armenian side destroyed all towns and villages, as well as the power infrastructure.

Baba Rzayev stated that there are abundant rivers in Azerbaijan's liberated territories and about 30 small hydropower plants used to operate in these territories. "When the Armenian side withdrew from these lands, they destroyed the stations and remaining buildings and foundations and transported equipment", Rzayev noted.

"First of all, these stations were monitored, and the restoration works kicked off following the preparation of relevant projects. The small 8 MW HPP in Gulabird village of Lachin district was the first infrastructure project commissioned in Karabakh with the participation of the President", he added.
