There must be an end to the occupation of Azerbaijani lands - Abdullah Gul
`World community should pay more attention to Nagorno-Karabakh conflict - former president of Turkey`,said Gul. “We want the world community to pay more attention to the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict.”

All that’s happening in Ukraine is an occupation, but what’s happened in Nagorno-Karabakh is an occupation, too, however the world community reacts very differently on the issue of Ukraine, he said.

“This undermines faith in international law and reflects a dual approach to the same issue,” he said.

The world is dominated by double standards, but Azerbaijan and Turkey, as well as at all times, will act together in all issues, Gul said.

He said that Azerbaijan`s struggle is a struggle of Turkey and Turkey`s struggle is a struggle of Azerbaijan.

The world community should pay more attention to the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict, the former President of Turkey Abdullah Gul told reporters April 30 in Baku.

The conflict between the two South Caucasus countries began in 1988 when Armenia made territorial claims against Azerbaijan. As a result of the ensuing war, in 1992 Armenian armed forces occupied 20 percent of Azerbaijan, including the Nagorno-Karabakh region and seven surrounding districts.

The two countries signed a ceasefire agreement in 1994. The co-chairs of the OSCE Minsk Group, Russia, France and the US are currently holding peace negotiations.

Armenia has not yet implemented the UN Security Council`s four resolutions on the liberation of the Nagorno-Karabakh and the surrounding regions.
