At the meeting, which took place a few days after French President François Hollande’s visit to Azerbaijan, the parties exchanged views on the settlement of the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict and the latest French initiative in this direction, the current status and prospects of France-Azerbaijan bilateral relations, the Azerbaijani foreign ministry told.
The French side reiterated that it attaches high importance to relations with Azerbaijan, adding that it remains committed to the ongoing negotiations through the OSCE Minsk Group and its role as a mediator. Jacques Audibert also affirmed that President François Hollande would continue to pay attention to this issue.
Minister Elmar Mammadyarov praised the French side’s activity in this context, pointing out the Armenian army presence in occupied Azerbaijani territories as the main factor impeding the peace process. Elmar Mammadyarov emphasized that a just and lasting solution to the Armenian-Azerbaijani conflict is only possible on the basis of the principles of border inviolability, territorial integrity, sovereignty and protection of political independence.
