Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev called the Azerbaijani taekwondo fighter Muhammad Mammadov, who lost to Belgian Mohammed Ketbi Si in the fight for the bronze medal AzVision.az reports.
Mohammed Mammadov could not stand his defeat and began to cry in the ring. His opponent tried to calm him down.
According to the sportsman, he suffered a very heavy defeat, because he hoped for a medal.
"Only an athlete can understand me. I felt very bad. But after the fight President Ilham Aliyev unexpectedly telephoned me. He said that I should not be sad because I`m only 17 years old. He told me that Azerbaijan is waiting for my future victories. I promised him that I will win the gold medal for our country. This call mollified me," the athlete said.
