He thinks that these temporary sporting facilities are also ready to host the Islamic Solidarity Games in a couple of years.
Hubbard said it was his first time in Baku and he noticed there weren`t too many old buildings in the city. He said he was expecting to see some "Soviet-era big blocks", however some of them have been removed and there are a lot of new buildings.
“There are also some buildings which are in a distinctively Azerbaijani style,” he said, adding that these buildings are neither Iranian, nor Western.
“They are not buildings you expect to see in Russia,” said Hubbard. He added that the buildings represent an interesting mix of the palaces from the East or South with the Western interior.
The European Games that kicked off in Baku June 12, will last till June 28. There is a total of 20 sports at Baku 2015: 16 Olympic sports and four non-Olympic sports.
More than 6,000 athletes from across Europe came to Baku to represent their nations over 17 days of competition. Baku was awarded the games by the European Olympic Committees (EOC) in December 2012.
