Germany plays role of hegemon in Europe, says Azerbaijani MP
Germany plays a role of a hegemon in the European Union, Azerbaijani MP Fazail Aghamali told on June 23.
He was referring to Germany’s growing claims for hegemony in Europe, its insincere attitude to many countries, including Azerbaijan and a policy of double standards.

Starting from the last century, Germany was trying to become a hegemon in Europe, he said. “This country even used war for ensuring its hegemony.”

Germany’s goal in the First and the Second World Wars was to create full control over Europe, as well as over the whole world, according to the Azerbaijani MP.

However, Germany lost in both wars and became the initiator of creating an organization named the European Union in order to ensure its supremacy in Europe and achieved that, said Aghamali.

The MP said that Germany and France are the two leading countries in EU. “However, anyway, Germany is the major player. The UK resists it to a certain extent.”

Thanks to its economy, Germany is able to put pressure on other counties, except for France and the UK, according to Fazail Aghamali. “It is the integral part of Germany’s strategy throughout 100 years.”
