The killing of two more people in Dashalti village of Shusha as a result of the mine explosion shows that Armenia’s war crimes continue although a year has passed from the end of the war. Yerevan has not yet provided accurate maps of the landmines that it buried in the Azerbaijani territories. Therefore, today thousands of people face the danger posed by landmines. Military servicemen and civilians lose their lives. 

During the occupation, Armenians have deliberately buried mines in such a way that it would kill a person in case of an explosion. It also means that Armenia purposefully intends to kill more Azerbaijani civilians. With the traditional Armenian method, they tried to kill more people by putting anti-tank mines underground and antipersonnel on the ground. Such kind of “surprise mines” are usually used during diversion and terror acts. Each action shows the true face of the side, which committed it. 

During the 44-day war, Azerbaijan’s professional military servicemen detected thousands of mines and prevented big tragedies. However, the most dangerous phase of this mine danger has started as the war ended. 

Up until now, inaccuracies have been found in the landmine maps provided by the Armenian side. The landmine maps, which were provided last week, are one of the examples. ANAMA (Azerbaijan’s Mine Action Agency) states that specifications of the mine maps usually contain data on the coordinates of the area, types, numbers, distances, burial, and concealment requirements of the buried mines. However, the specifications of the provided maps seem unreliable, useless, and inaccurate. The accuracy of the mine maps for Aghdam, Fuzuli, and Zangilan regions was 25 %.  In this regard, it can be said that Armenia wants to continue its war crimes. 

By taking such a position, Armenia wants to impede the restoration of peaceful life and people’s return to their territories. It is not considered a new policy. Throughout all leaderships in Armenia, the civilian population has been targeted. Azerbaijani people well remember the constant missile firings on civilians. The occupying country, which was unable to fight with Azerbaijan on the battlefield, tried to take revenge on civilians. The same process happens today.

It seems that Armenia does not want to change its national ideology based on the hatred against Azerbaijan and Turkey. Inaccurate maps, planting “mine surprises” in areas, where heavy military vehicles could not pass - for example, in forests are a result of Armenia’s continuing terror policy. Strangely, international organizations do not put any pressure on Yerevan despite a series of mine tragedies. In the background of the mine tragedies, the international organizations do not make any calls on Armenia for accurate maps. By keeping their silence, they create conditions for new war crimes. Azerbaijan, in its turn, expects active support from international organizations and the United Nations for clearance of its lands from landmines. Certainly, we can do it without others’ support, but it is not possible to bring back people who lost their lives... All those visiting the liberated territories must act carefully.
