Situation in Yerevan`s central square remained tense at night
"Stand Up, Armenia" initiative continued protest actions in Republic Square at night, member of the initiative Andrias Ghukasyan told Armenian News.am, AzVision.az.
Police formed a wall in front of the central part of the square, he said, adding that tension did not ease till the morning.

“Young people were angered by a police officer who slapped an old man. The demonstrators managed to block the streets occasionally, clashes occurred between the protesters and police officers,” Ghukasyan said, adding that the situation is calm now.

On Friday evening police detained 6-7 members of the initiative and released them several hours later.

The members of the “Stand up, Armenia” have been staging sit-in in Yerevan’s Republic Square since July 27, demanding to revoke the decision on electricity price hike in Armenia, to dismiss members of the Public Services Regulatory Commission and to nationalize the Electric Networks of Armenia.
