OSCE to support justice system reform in Georgia
The Georgian government welcomes the readiness of the OSCE Office for Democratic Institutions and Human Rights (ODIHR) to support reform of the justice system in the country by the recommendations, thus contributing to the strengthening of democratic institutions, said a statement of the Georgian government Dec.10.
After the 2012 election, the government of Georgia appealed to the ODIHR with a request to observe the trials of former senior officials, the Georgian government said. This serves the purpose of identifying irregularities during the judicial processes and their elimination through reforms, according to the statement.

Invitation of ODIHR mission to the country reiterates the desire of the current government of Georgia to make current processes open and transparent, said the statement.

“As a result of similar observations held by ODIHR until today, violations were always detected, however, many governments refrained from inviting the mission,” said the statement.

“The purpose of the mission is to identify existing shortcomings in the justice system. The conclusions show that political persecution is not carried out in Georgia.”
