Ali Hasanov: Azerbaijan saved Southern Gas Corridor
Azerbaijan is considered to be the most potential country of the South Caucasus in terms of the size of its territory and benefiting from its material and human resources.
Ali Hasanov, Assistant to the Azerbaijani President for Public and Political Affairs, made the remarks Thursday at the conference titled “Azerbaijan in the modern world”, organized by the New Azerbaijan Party in Baku.

Ali Hasanov said Azerbaijan is located in the most important geo-economic and geo-strategic position among Caspian littoral countries.

“The proper economic policy pursued has turned Azerbaijan into a center in Eurasia in some sense. The country has increased its importance by pursuing an energy policy in accordance with the world’s growing need for energy. Azerbaijan, Kazakhstan and Turkmenistan are now considered to be the most reliable alternative source for growing need for energy. Compared to Kazakhstan and Turkmenistan, Azerbaijan has better opportunities for delivering energy carriers produced by itself and other its partners, and has been guaranteed from risks. Azerbaijan made a strategic choice on the Baku-Tbilisi-Ceyhan oil pipeline, which consequently increased Azerbaijan in geo-strategic importance and influence. Today there is a network of gas pipelines such as Baku-Subsa, Baku-Novorossiysk, BTC (70 million-ton annual capacity), with 30 billion cubic-meter throughput capacity. TAP and TANAP will bring more opportunities in his area,” he noted.

Ali Hasanov said that TAP and TANAP brought new breath to the Southern Gas Corridor, adding that Azerbaijan laid the foundation for a new energy corridor through its initiative and saved the Southern Gas Corridor.

Speaking about the country`s role as a transport corridor, Hasanov said that the transport system was reconstructed.

“Azerbaijan has a national civil union, strong army and defense potential, basing on them it pursues an independent foreign policy. During first 10 years Azerbaijan managed to preserve its independence and embarked on a path of sustainable development thanks to Heydar Aliyev`s influence and ability of leadership. As a result of it, the state implemented a successful oil strategy and created a basis for economic development. Azerbaijan became an influential country in the international community basing on the national interests during the rule of President Ilham Aliyev. Today, Azerbaijan is increasing its weight and role in global politics cooperating with the UN, OIC, Council of Europe and other organizations. Experts are highly-assessing material and human resources of Azerbaijan and its policy in this field. Currently, Azerbaijan has 4.6 billion tons of proven and 10 billion tons of probable energy reserves,” he underlined.
